This Gibson Super 400 is a great playing rare example of the instrument. It was purchased by the original owner from the factory when they worked there, then played in the city where it’s always lived for the past 80 some years. The owner’s daughter brought it to me for restoration and to consign for sale. With the obvious exception of the pickups, the only other non original feature is the pickgaurd I made to replace the deteriorated celluloid, and the refinished top that shows brush marks, but was done so long ago that the patina matches decently to the instrument. The owner’s request was to get the guitar sellable, not 100% restoration. Accordingly, the pickups remain, as does the route through the top and unfortunately into one of the braces. Despite this, the arch remains in excellent shape with good bridge height and neck pitch. I fit a little piece of spruce in the cut out just for some insurance, but it’s up to the next owner as to what work could/should be done. It still carries a strong acoustic voice and there are no signs of structural failure. $14,000.00
